Porch Swings "Art Deco" Porch Swing
Black Walnut & Cherry Hardwoods |
|||||||||||||||||
I have a Modern and a French Country Porch Swing. I felt the urge to design something new and very different. Art Deco kept entering my mind. So I Goggled "art deco furniture" to search for inspiration. I look for shapes that are soft and round as opposed to sharp and angular. Anyway, I spent a week looking at the computer screen until my eyes and mind were fried. I could not find any inspiration. I decided to put it aside until another time and moved on. About a month later a woodworking magazine I subscribe to arrived with plans for an Art Deco desk clock. It leaped off the page and immediately I knew this was my Swing. First, I visualize what it is going to look like. Once I have a clear picture in my mind I made a scaled drawing and begin work. Work starts by selecting the wood. I'm known for going through every board the lumber company has just to find the right wood for my new
Swing. The first time I build a new design it is always challenging. I start
making patterns from the scaled drawling. Then it's on to building the Swing.
